Geordies: 'Rudest Drivers'
A survey of over 24,000 motorists by insurer LV= has found that Newcastle Upon Tyne has some of the rudest drivers in the country.
The survey, which took into account things like thanking other road users, stopping for pedestrians and giving way to other drivers, found that Cardiff had the politest drivers of the 15 major UK cities studied.
It’s reported that 94% of drivers in the Welsh capital stopped and waited for a pedestrian to cross, compared to just 62% of Geordies.
Birmingham came second top with Sheffield third in the survey, which observed motorists behaviour at junctions, roundabouts and crossings.
LV= car insurance managing director Selwyn Fernandes is quoted as saying: "Driving in a safe and courteous manner involves more than learning the basics of operating a car and learning the rules of the road. Safe driving also requires good judgement, patience and common sense”.
