North-South Divide

Figures revealed this week have found that the north of England has the highest rate of car crime in the UK.

Website HonestJohn.co.uk used publicly available records to undergo the investigation, which found that the national average of car crime in urban areas was discovered to be 242 per 10,000 – more than half the car crime rate of Manchester (505 per 10,000).

Other northern cities that ranked particularly poorly include Bradford and Leeds, which had crime levels of 457 and 420 per 10,000 respectively.

Although having some of the lowest rates in the north, Newcastle and Liverpool remained in the top ten worst cities for car crime nationally. It’s understood that London’s rate of 443 crimes per 10,000 made it the only city in the South on the list.

Daniel Harrison, Editor at HonestJohn.co.uk, is quoted as saying: “the results show a real North-South divide in car crime figures.
Drivers in the worst hit areas should act to protect their cars and add more security features but it will also help new drivers and first-time buyers know the kind of car insurance premiums they should expect to pay”.
