Supermarket Fuel Cuts
It is reported today that the major UK supermarkets will be reducing the cost of their fuel by as much as 2p per litre as of tomorrow.
Asda were the first to announce the plans: ‘Our national price cap benefits everyone across the country, meaning that no-one filling up at Asda will be forced to pay a premium for their fuel because of where they live,’ explained Andy Peake, Asda’s petrol trading director.
Sainsbury’s swiftly followed suit with Morrisons also partaking in the price cut. It is hoped that the move will encourage motorists to visit their stores after petrol prices have risen over the last month.
Reports suggest that diesel continues to be the more expensive fuel. AA president Edmund King explains: ‘For the past six weeks, retailers have been paying 2p-3p more a litre for diesel compared to petrol.’
‘Yet, when they sell it to drivers, diesel is typically around 4p more expensive than petrol. The AA advises that diesel prices vary locally more than petrol so drivers should search out diesel-friendlier forecourts.’
