It’s National Walking Month 2017!

Did you know that May is National Walking Month? This national event is organised by Living Streets, a charity which aims to increase walking.

This year, the initiative aims to encourage people to take a 20-minute walk each day throughout the month, in order to feel the benefits of a healthier lifestyle.

As part of National Walking Month, Walk to School Week will take place from 15th-19th May. This week-long event aims to celebrate the benefits that walking brings, and to encourage children and their parents to do the school run on foot. Winn Solicitors are sponsoring five schools to take part in Walk to School Week – keep an eye on our website for more details.

In celebration of National Walking Month, here’s some tips to ensure you fit in 20 minutes of walking per day:

Take someone with you

If you’re feeling unmotivated, or the idea of going walking on your own seems daunting, why not take a friend or a family member with you? It’s also a great way of spending some quality time with a loved one.

Walk to and from work, school, and college

If you live close enough to work, school or college, why not walk there? Or if you live far away, you could consider walking part of the way. Walking to and from work is a great way to boost your energy levels, and also save money on transport costs too!

Walk to the shops

If walking to work or school isn’t an option for you, why not walk to the supermarket or the local high street to do some shopping? It’s a great way to combine getting some exercise with ticking off your shopping list!

Have a day out

Grab some friends or family and head for the beach, the countryside or even the local park. Head to a spot which requires a short walk, or set up camp and then head off exploring – it’s the perfect way to ensure you meet your step target!
