Hit & Run Incidents Rising Over Christmas
Motorists could be met with unwelcome car insurance claims on their Christmas shopping bill this year, after 50% of drivers admitted to colliding with another car whilst parking. More shockingly, the same 50% also admitted to driving away after the collision.
The figures, released as part of Citroën UK’s Parking Hero survey, mean that thousands of car owners will be faced with a car crash claim, despite 63% of those surveyed regularly seeking out spaces further away from other parked cars.
Of those surveyed, over a quarter believed they were more likely to suffer damage from a collision when parked in a multi-storey car park, whilst half were most wary of supermarket parking. Only 17% were least happy about leaving their car parked in an on-street space.
Perhaps against stereotype, the most careful parkers were shown to be in the ‘young driver’ bracket of 18-24 year-olds.
Whilst the results of the survey may have arrived too late to save a few drivers from Santa’s naughty list this year, Citroën hope that its Parking Hero campaign will prove beneficial by highlighting the issues faced by drivers on a daily basis and giving an insight into the habits of other road users.
