Finding the right parking space could save you hundreds

Drivers are being urged to research and ‘shop around’ for car parking spaces as it could save them hundreds of pounds.

That’s the advice being given by YourParkingSpace.co.uk, who claim that commuters in London are paying up to £1,440 more per year than they need to by parking in well known spots or spaces near to their workplace or transport hub.

Elsewhere around the country, car owners overspent by £524 in Manchester, £365 in Birmingham and £359 in Bristol

In a press release the website said: “Rather than driving straight to the main railway station car park, commuters could save hundreds of pounds by researching cheaper parking options.

“Regular parking costs at the UK’s railway stations can add up to thousands of pounds with the average monthly cost of parking close to railway stations in Central London £3,240 per year.”

It continued: “When it comes to making savings motorists are quick to compare the cost of car insurance policies, with comparison sites resulting in average insurance savings of £280 per year.

“However, the parking industry has remained remarkably old fashioned, with consumers typically parking in the car park that’s closest to their workplace or railway station, without thinking of shopping around for a cheaper space.”
