Kitten Rescued from Motorway on the Mend
Motorway traffic was brought to a standstill after a stranded visitor to the central reservation was rescued.
A kitten somehow found itself stuck in the middle of the M18 northbound, near Doncaster, with motorists calling emergency services to alert them.
National Highways were called to the scene and the little four-week-old black kitten, who has been named Smudge, was saved.
Since the incident, Smudge is being cared for by a National Highways worker at their home while attempting to reunite it with its owner.
Gavin Buffam, who rescued the animal, told the BBC: “I went to grab it but it ran off, so for my safety, the safety of road users and, of course, the kitten, another crew instigated a rolling road block to stop the traffic so I could try and get it.
“Once it was in the car, it tried to bite my fingers a few times!”
Anna Leather, who is currently caring for the feline, said: “She looked absolutely awful, full of muck and the parts of debris in her coat were like sandpaper and greasy.
“We gave her a good bath, a good feed and now she can’t stop feeding, she’s like a pot-bellied pig.”

"Contacted Winns before my insurance company and they saved all the hassle, they were really quick and great over the phone and sorted [a hire] car, repairs etc. within hours."
