Smartphone users can now swap details by app
The Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB) has launched a new app which enables victims of road accidents to check insurance at the roadside.
The app, called ‘askMID’, is accessible via smart phone and www.askMID.com and instantly checks to see if the other driver involved in the incident has insurance and who they’re with.
It searches through the Motor Insurance Database, which has a record of more than 34 million vehicles in the UK stored, to find the information you need with ease.
MIB Chief Executive Ashton West believes it will take the “stress out of collecting important information at the time of an incident”
“Having accurate details at the scene of an accident is absolutely essential to making insurance claims. It confirms whether the other vehicle involved in the accident is showing as insured on the MID and provides the other party’s insurance details to the claim can be perused quickly”
It follows a simple three-step process; simply enter your email address, your vehicle’s registration number and the third party vehicle’s registration number and you’ll receive confirmation of the insurer and contact details sent to your screen and email address.
The app, available now for free, will hopefully take some of the worry away from the already stressful experience of having an accident.
