Petrol Cheaper Than Ever This Christmas

Christmas has come early for Britain’s motorists, as the supermarkets have slashed the price of petrol.

All three of the leading supermarkets, Asda, Morrisons and Tesco, have knocked pennies off at the pumps in a bid to entice drivers.

Asda have taken 3 pence off the price of petrol per litre since the start of December, meaning that a litre of petrol will cost no more than 114.7p a litre. Tescos have also cut petrol prices by 1p.

Morrisons meanwhile have taken 2p off the price of both petrol and diesel, promising that further reductions are yet to come.

Naturally, the price reduction has been universally praised by motoring bodies, with RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams commenting: "The wholesale prices of both petrol and diesel have reduced dramatically in recent weeks, so much so that there is room for petrol prices to come down by over 8p a litre and diesel by over 6p a litre in the next fortnight.

"We are hopeful motorists will see average petrol prices under 112p a litre, something they will not have seen since February 2010. If this happens the cheapest retailers will no doubt be selling petrol for well under 110p a litre, perhaps even lower."
