Voters want pothole and fuel duty assurances
Fuel duty prices and potholes could be deciding factors at the general election, according to the RAC.
The next general election is still several weeks away, but motorists have already been making their voices heard over what they want from a new government through a an RAC Foundation survey, with potholes and fuel prices topping the list.
Potholes have plagued motorists and the current government throughout their entire term, with a similar survey five years ago also highlighting the issues drivers face on crack-riddled roads.
Stephen Glaister, director of the RAC Foundation, said: "Five years on and the poor state of the roads remains the number one concern among voters.
"It would be a mistake if politicians thought the cost of filling up has gone away as an issue. In the last few weeks oil prices have rebounded and this has a significant and immediate impact on motorists' pockets."
The Foundation also surveyed 101 politicians about their transport concerns, finding that more were worried about train issues than the nation’s roads.
Professor Glaister added; "On some big issues the politicians seem to be out of touch with the public."
